About Us
The Hill Country Youth Commercial Heifer Show and Sale provides youth in the Texas Hill Country with the opportunity to raise and sell commercial heifers. Participants must reside in one of 27 Hill Country counties to participate in the project.
This project provides real word experience in the cattle industry. The project requires record-keeping, budgeting, and hard work. Participants are responsible for raising and preparing a set of three market-ready heifers.
The project culminates in a show where the replacement heifers and record books are graded and participants are interviewed. The heifers are then sold in an auction format to ranchers who will add the females into their breeding herds.
Money from the heifer sale goes back to project participants. Scholarships are also made available to participants.
Since 2014 the sale has returned more than $100,000 to its participants.
The Show and Sale is overseen by a dedicated committee of local volunteers. Committee members include:
Bill Meeks, Walt Reichenau, Cody Fuch, John Stewertson, Jody Osbourn, Warren Ottmers, Adam Geistweidt, Lisa Brown, Asa Daughtery, Josh Rode, Jeffrey Osbourn, Cody Hatfield, Jared Whitworth, and Lynn Weinheimer.
Participants must be from one of the 27 counties shown in the map below:
